My name is Tereza and I came to Germany from the Czech Republic. I grew up in a small village near Olomouc.
Olomouc is located in the Moravian region and it's the 5th biggest city. If you have plans to visit Czechia, then you should add this place to your list! :) Because not just the city itself can give you unforgettable memories but the places around it as well.
I'm 24 years old and I've been a volunteer for the Erasmus Student Network for a couple of years. Basically, I was taking care of exchange students who came to my study city. We organised events for them and helped them from the beginning of their exchange up to the end. That experiece gave me more self-confidence, friends around the world, new knowledge about many countries, cultures and languages.
How I ended up volunteering for Aktion West-Ost? I saw a post on facebook in a group for volunteers from my country. So I sent my CV and motivation letter, had an online interview, a couple more calls and ended up here in Düsseldorf!
To be honest, I was a little bit afraid of moving to Germany alone with only a basic knowledge of German. But so far (my first 3 weeks here), I cannot say anything bad. Even having had to stay in quarantine my 1st week. People from Aktion West-Ost made sure to inform me that they're here for me (can't wait to meet all of them :D), plus my colleagues in the office are amazing, sweet and caring people.
I'm looking forward to what this year in Düsseldorf will give me.
